Deep Creek Lake Fall Foliage Update

The air is turning a bit colder at Deep Creek Lake, and as a result the leaves are beginning to change.  The bright greens of summer are starting to fade, and have given way to a few scattered flecks of pale yellow, orange and red.  The trees below are on the mountainside at McHenry cove.There are also a few trees which have turned bright red – this photo was taken at the corner of Sang Run and Marsh Hill Road just behind our office. New Features on DeepCreek.com

We’ve added new and exciting features to DeepCreek.com in the form of photo and video sharing capabilities. You can now create and account and share your vacation images and video with us, as well as with other Deep Creek Lake vacationers. We look forward to seeing your shared vacations! In addition to uploading your vacations, you can also e-mail your vacation gallery to friends and family.
To get started, simply:
– Go to DeepCreek.com and click on “Share Your Vacation Experience”.
– Fill in your Account Information.
– Give your vacation a name, and select the home you stayed in, if applicable.
– Fill out the story field with a short description of your vacation activities.
– Click the “Your Vacation Images” tab, select a photo, and click upload. Click “Add another item” for as many photos as you have to upload.
– Click the “Your Vacation Videos” tab, and paste in a video link from YouTube or Vimeo.
– Go to the bottom of the page, and click “Save”.
(Your vacation images and videos will be visible in the gallery after moderation.)

Smithsonian Traveling Exhibition coming to Garrett County

The Smithsonian Traveling Exhibition “Between Fences” will be coming to Spruce Forest Artisan Village in Grantsville, Maryland (directions) from May 6th through June 26th.  The exhibition will explore different fence types, their role and meaning in American society, and the examination of the fence as a symbol.  The exhibit is designed to be family friendly and includes accompanying stories, tools and photographs.  Young visitors can participate by painting a section of fence that will be included in the exhibit.

 

Complimenting the exhibit will be a “Dinner Talk Time Series” hosted atPenn Alps Restaurant on Thursday evenings for the duration of the exhibition.

The New Year has officially begun, and for many this means a ski vacation is right around the corner.  Regular infusions of natural snowfall during the past few weeks have resulted in fantastic ski conditions at Wisp Resort.   In fact, we’re on track to get another 6+ inches this week.   If you have not yet reserved a home for your upcoming ski trip, the time is now! Winter is officially here and Wisp Resort is reporting a total of 31 trails open as well as the cross country skiing trails.  In addition to skiing, the Bear Claw snow tubing park is open as is the ice skating rink and Mountain Coaster.  View current trail and lift conditions on Wisp Resort’s website. Four inches of natural snowfall combined with snowmaking at Wisp are contributing to excellent skiing conditions with a 20-48″ base reported. Add a ski vacation to your New Year’s resolutions – it’s one you won’t have a hard time keeping!

Wisp Resort Schedules Grand Opening

Wisp Resort has scheduled its grand opening for  Thursday,  December 9th.  Several days of light natural snowfall and extensive snow making by Wisp have built up a 12-24″ base. The Belly Flop beginner slope and carpet conveyor will begin operating December 4th and 5th between 9am and 5pm, and tickets will be $10 for juniors and adults.
