Snow at Deep Creek Lake

Snow at Deep Creek Lake

Winter is officially kicking off, as we’ve received a few inches of wet, heavy snow already at Deep Creek Lake.  Wisp Resort has set a tentative opening date of December 17th if they are able to lay down a sufficient snow base, and their 56th birthday celebration has been moved to December 18th and 19th.   We’ll be sure to update you whenever Wisp announces its grand opening.[youtube=]

2011 Festival of Trees

The 2011 Festival of Trees will be this weekend – November 25th and 26th at the new Garrett County Fairgrounds exhibit hall from 10am-8pm.  Browse and bid on a number of trees specially decorated by area individuals and businesses.  You will also be able to bid on centerpieces, swags, gingerbread houses and other unique items.  The kids have a lot of their own activities, including a breakfast with Santa at 9am on Friday ($10, includes admission and a sundae), pictures with Santa and friends, karaoke, letters to Santa and more.  Proceeds from the auction benefit the Dove Center. First Snow of the Season at Deep Creek Lake

First Snow of the Season at Deep Creek Lake

The first snow of the season at Deep Creek Lake fell last weekend, burying many a pumpkin and giving us small taste of winter which many have referred to affectionately as “Snowtober”. The snow won’t stay around long, as high temperatures are forecast to be in the 40’s and 50’s for the next 10 days.
