With more than 9 miles of trails designed for both hiking and mountain biking, Fork Run is a must see. Choose one of the multiple trails and explore the beautifully wooded surroundings. Make sure to check out the trail to the boulders and ledges, where many rock climbers challenge themselves to climb to the top. Fork Run is pet friendly, so grab the leash and hit the trails!
(Directions: From Rt. 219 in McHenry, take Sang Run Road .6 miles. Make a left on Hoyes Road for 3.3 miles. Left on Oakland-Sang Run Road for .8 miles. Left Shingle Camp, and immediate Left into Fork Run.)
Following the Youghiogheny River, this short 3-mile trail starts in Friendsville, MD and offers the best view of the river. Make your way down the trail while watching the kayakers paddle through rapids. This is considered an easy trail so bring along your four-legged friend to enjoy the fresh mountain air by your side!
(Directions: From McHenry, take 219 North to Route 42 toward Friendsville, MD. Follow Route 42 for approx. 7 miles. Take a right on First Avenue and a left on Oak Street.)
(Directions: Northern trailhead is at Swallow Falls State Park. Southern trailhead and parking can be accessed along Herrington Manor Road, in the dip approximately .5 miles north of Herrington Manor State Park entrance.)
