Spring is a great time to try something new. Why not explore the outdoors through Geocaching? Part modern-day treasure hunt, part outdoor exploration, this spring activity is an adventure every time!
The Basics
Geo (related to the earth) + Cache (to hide away for future use) = Geocaching (outdoor recreation involving using GPS to navigate to hidden “caches” stored all around the world).
These caches can be anywhere—in in the woods, under bridges, or hiding in plain sight in shopping districts and cultural centers. The fun is in the hunt! Once you find a hidden cache, open the cannister and sign the log book. Sometimes these caches even have small gifts inside; feel free to take what’s inside and leave something behind for the next explorer!
What You Need
A GPS Receiver or Smart Phone
Clothes for Exploring (including walking shoes and sun protection)
Safety Basics (like water and a cell phone)
A Notebook and Pen to record your journey
Optional: Little “Treasures”- small treats and tokens to leave behind in discovered caches; something fun to pass along to the next adventurer.
